The solid manganese frog is recommended by A&Ks track specialists for locations subject to heavy traffic and moderate speeds. The rigid bolted frog is used in yard and industrial tracks where the traffic is light on both sides of the frog. The rail-bound manganese steel frogs are used for heavy or high-speed mainline services where the traffic is equal on both sides of the frog.
